Among the medals note the 10 screws, 2 plates and 5" metal bone-graft insert worn for 13 months after a 1963 Aspen ski accident with a tree prior to the National Championships. Jake's leg was broken in 200 chips, 14 major breaks, and 7 compound fractures. He recovered to race again.
